What Scoreboard?

Coach Mike Drass
It is an exciting time within our ministry. Two years ago we committed to narrow our ministry focus with FCA to develop leaders. God blessed our availability and is producing abundant fruit through leadership development.

It is a beautiful experience when a leader utilizes their span of influence to glorify God. The platform of athletics provides much temptation for all of those involved (fans, administrators, parents, bench players, Coaches.) In many cases we worship winning and not God.
FCA's Coaches Ministry is committed to developing leaders that desire to pursue excellence with their attitude and effort. Shifting their focus from winning to glorifying God (1 Cor 10:31-whatever you do; whether you eat or drink do it all for the glory of God." F.T.L. Leadership Development will provide consistent modern day parables on Coaches, athletes and leaders who are leading or competing for Jesus.

One of the leaders who is committed to the spiritual development of his athletes is Coach Mike Drass. Coach Drass is the head football Coach and Athletic Director at Wesley College in Dover DE. Coach is passionate about developing student athletes as leaders. Mike was the first Coach who embraced our FCA ministry for us three years ago. We appreciate that Mike did not want just a fellowship group that met once a week, he desired depth and leadership development.

At 8:00am this morning, the Wesley Football Wolverines attended Chapel prior to their game. Last week Wesley lost their first game of the year. A 16-0 lead at halftime can have a spiritual impact on any team which is what happened last week. This morning we talked about being Warriors for Christ not the scoreboard.

Col 3:23 tells us to work at everything with all of our heart as if we are working for the Lord and not for men. This verse makes no mention of a scoreboard. We encouraged the warriors to compete by faith (with all their hearts) and not by sight (the scoreboard). The spiritual advantage comes by competing to please God regardless of my circumstances, the score, or my role. Following the Wesley Chapel we prayed with the entire team and staff.

Wesley FCA offers Winning God's Way (WGW) studies as well as a weekly FCA Huddle run by student athletes. WGW is a discipleship program that has a major impact on the development of leaders. At Wesley, football players are being transformed by God into effective leaders. Coach Drass has remarked that the difference is visible in senior linebacker Jeremiah Santiago.
Many leaders and Coaches are being impacted at Wesley as a result of Coach Drass' open heart to Jesus and a commitment to developing leaders. Thank you Coach for embracing what God can do for a program. Dad is taking William (5) and Edward (3) to the Wesley Game after this post. Make it a great day!

To resonate on:

Are you living for God or for a "scoreboard"?

What is your scoreboard (outcomes of games, performance, results, approval of man)?
Is your organization open to God?

God bless you!
