We attended a conference this weekend. Great to hear Mark Batterson share. His books have been a blessing over the past few months: In The Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day, Wild Goose Chase, and Primal. Mark is the lead Pastor for National Community Church in DC.
Of the many things that spoke to me the teaching on the rooster resonated in a powerful way. He said can you image how Peter must of cringed everytime he heard a rooster crow after he fulfilled what Jesus spoke about Peter denying Him.
Matt 26 34"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times."
Matt 26 74Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed. 75Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.
We are often bound by something that happened in our past even though we have accepeted Christ. Whatever that is, it is our "rooster". I spent years not being able to talk about being involved in an abortion. The abortion was a "rooster". Through Jesus' blood, God's mercy and grace, I have been forgiven and now share that part of my testimony with others.
Is there a "rooster" God is calling you to deal with today? The enemy would love for us to keep roosters around, keeping us cringing everytime we listen to the "crow (lies) of satan who wants to condemn us. Jesus did not come to condemn you!
In John 21, Jesus released Peter from his grief of denying Him and sent him out to influence the world. Take care of your rooster today and ask Jesus to send you out!
