When Melissa and I were considering names for our third son, we developed a love for the name Patrick due to our Irish roots. Patrick means nobleman and Patrick was a true warrior for Christ although the world has made him King of green beer. We pray our Patrick will be known for the former and not the later.
A warrior will die for his cause. For years I was a warrior for beer, being willing to die for it (three near death car accidents and 2 DUI's) before my brother's death (killed by drunk driver) led me to Jesus Christ. Thankful for the sovereignty and grace of God and that I can now be a warrior for Christ and no longer beer (8 years sober last month!). Some of you might be thinking the Bible does not say anything about drinking. You are right, it does say a lot about drunkenness.
Not preaching a sermon to those of you who drink, my wife and I made a decision to stop drunkenness before it killed us or someone else, that may not be the case with you. We desired not to cause anyone to stumble and determined that it might hinder our walk with Christ more than drinking would help it. We want Jesus to bear much divine fruit through our lives by daily dying for Him.
Hope you enjoy this post and consider fighting & living for Christ like St. Patrick. Exerts from prayer often called "St. Patrick's Breastplate".
I arise today through God's strength to pilot me: God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me, God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me,God's host to save me From snares of devils, From temptations of vices,From everyone who shall wish me ill, Afar and a near, Alone and in multitude.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,Christ on my right, Christ on my left,Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
