Dana Shelton was commissioned at our 2009 Legacy Builder Coaches Conference, coaches football at Lake Forest HS and is the FCA Huddle Leader for Woodbridge HS. Enjoy Coach Shelton's post (pictured left with Eagles center Jamaal Jackson at the FCA Super Bowl Breakfast):
Woodbridge High School includes Bridgeville, Greenwood, and Farmington. Small towns located in the small state of Delaware. However, we know that nothing is too small or too big for our God to handle. God has truly blessed our FCA huddle group. We have four student leaders who do an outstanding job leading our devotions. Jere Hudson, Taylor Patterson, Thomas Jefferson, and Xavier Seymore are committed and dedicated to FCA. We meet every Friday at 7:45 a.m. during breakfast. We have also consistently had prayer meetings on Monday mornings.
Several years ago, seven to twelve students would attend our huddle meetings. Last year, we had a steady group of twelve who would attend on a regular basis. I called them “The Twelveâ€. During this school year, we have grown to over 30 students participating in our huddle group. It is a blessing to see these students on the battlefield for the Lord. Our huddle includes members of the football team, cheerleaders, girl’s field hockey, girl’s basketball, and boy’s soccer.
We were blessed with a new football coach this year at Woodbridge and many students who did not play in previous years saw an opportunity to come out for the team. During this time, many of the football players were encouraged to join the Woodbridge High School FCA. The majority of those players continued to come to our huddle meetings and give praises and thanks to the Lord. What a testimony to the character of these young people. Many of our athletes know that they will not be judged by wins and losses in the final outcome.
It reminds me of one of my favorite scriptures. Jeremiah 29:11 which says “For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.†As long as these students have hope, they will reap the rewards today and in heaven. We give all of the honor and glory to God for what he has done at Woodbridge. I want to give a special thanks to Mrs. Robin Sturgeon for her continued encouragement to the ministry.
God Bless
Dana Shelton
