What was our reaction when we heard about the trainer being killed by the Killer Whale? For me it was multi-dimensional. First, I thought about all of the times I have been blessed to go to Sea World as a boy, as an adult and recently as a father. The story seemed more real because I was actually there.
I believe God is speaking many things to my heart about this real life story. The primary thing God is telling me is that Dawn Brancheau died doing what she loved to do. She was passionate about Killer Whales even when other people had been killed before. Dawn died while serving in her life passion.
Dawn visited Sea World as a little girl and eventually followed her passion to the point of dying for what she loved. There are many jobs at Sea World but she opted for something that risked everything. There are also many roles and dimensions to Christianity, some of us play a role but play it safe. Evangelism and discipleship calls us to die for Jesus Christ.
I remember wanting to share my faith more but not being able to. It was like working at Sea World but watering the flowers or working in concessions not being willing to risk it all. I remember being in jobs with compromise in my soul, I knew it was not my passion. I believe God uses all experiences and circumstances to help us prepare and grow, however sometimes we just do something to provide for our family or to chase promotions, fame, position, etc.
I believe God is looking for people to count the cost and line up with his Will for our lives. He wants us to serve in our passion or bring our passion for Christ where we are planted.
Will we be a martyr for our faith like the disciples were?
If my passion is Christ, will I really lay my agenda down for him?
Are you willing to die for your passion?
Is your job your passion or is it just a job?
Are you defined by your job our your passion?
Go for it!
Acts 7:59While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." 60Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.
