We are grateful for what God showed us last summer. Early in the winter of 2008 God told us to welcome as many college athletes to a summer leadership development experience. Melissa and I did not understand how much it would impact our lives, children and the lives of the leaders. We observed the countenance change and life transformation in all of the student athletes who served and grew in Christ with us. The team included: Blair Maginnis (Moravian), Brad Dancel (Florida State), Nick Richmond (Delaware State), Jeremiah Santiago (Wesley College), Danielle Hines (Del Tech) and Tanya Lang (Eastern University).
We followed God's leading and told the athletes that their primary mission for the summer was to Know Christ (Phil 3:7 &8). To count everything as garbage in their life except for knowing Jesus. We told them that FCA was their platform but Christ was their priority everyday of the summer and the rest of their lives. All six embraced the mission and grew in Jesus in amazing ways. God accomplished this through teachings, guest speakers, video training, eating meals together with our family and "Experiencing God" endeavors such as a week at the beach, serving in a Detention Center and visiting a recovering drug addict facility.
Our lives need to be about God pouring his spirit into the lives of others (discipleship) and multiplying our zeal and passion for Jesus into disciples to influence the masses (replication). We are thankful to those who financially supported the leadership effort. The leaders who were with us are making a major impact on their campuses and beyond. Blair Maginnis (left in the picture above) was one of the men who spent the summer with us. He is allowing me to share his heart and growth with you in today's blog. His email was written to to our summer leadership team.
Make it a great day!

Hey brothers and sisters,
Hope you are all doing well, thought of you guys today and was inspired to write about what God put on my heart today and share it with yall. Coming down to Dover this weekend! Hopefully see you guys who are down there over the weekend. Tanya it was great seeing you today up at Moravian. Brad praying that God is blessing you down there man.
I’m walking to class today, not really feeling well have a pretty bad cold feeling crappy to be honest. I see a girl walking past me wearing a shirt and the shirt really caught my eye and for some reason God quickened me to something I believe very important. The shirt read "Be Free" with a little peace sign and flower on it. I thought to myself do people really know what true freedom is or are they slaves to the world and unaware of it? I can say before this summer I thought I might have been free but, not until I truly saw the power of the freedom of forgiveness and the cross I walk around fighting to be independent form the God of the universe that all he wanted was a deep intimate relationship with me. Now I had a really big problem with I could not accept of who I was in Christ so I was not truly free. I really was thinking though today how many Christians and people are just walking around my campus today thinking that they are "living free" by doing what they want. Going around thinking true freedom is to get drunk and high whenever you feel you need to and have sex with as many people as you want, because you’re truly free when you can do that because you’re momentary pleasure is more important than a relationship with the one who made you. I really struggled with that thought today that there are so many people who are bound up in slavery under the yolk of sin and don’t even realize it. They think they’re free when they are the furthest thing from it. They are fighting for independence from God when all independence from God can cause us is pain. Independence and freedom are two words that we all think as good things but in reality, with God opening up my spiritual eyes to it all I don’t want independence and I want true freedom I want to be a slave to Christ not a slave to men and things of this world(Galatians 1:10). God really put you guys on my hear today know that I love you all and that you would be praying for me because I know that the message of God reminding me of my need for freedom and that I need to stop fighting independence was just as much for me as it was for you guys. So may you live free today guys walk in victory, live as a child of the Most High. Romans 8:28 38 I am sure that nothing can separate us from God's love--not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, 39and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God's love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!
God Bless
Blair
